Simple & Effective Tractor Tire MetCon

An effective training program should be fun and it should be simple.  Many times, we as trainers like to let our imaginations get the best of us and, before we know it, we’ve begun to stray from our core training beliefs and our clients are in the corner using a shake weight while standing on a Bosu Ball.

Well … that may be a stretch, but you get the idea.

Today I want to share a simple, yet incredibly effective metabolic conditioning super set that you can easily add in at the end of a strength training workout, or even manipulate to use as it’s own conditioning workout.

One of the great things about this workout is that the equipment cost me just $23 for a 10-pound sledgehammer at the Home Depot.  The tractor tire was free from a local business that was more than happy to GIVE it to me as they had to pay to have it disposed of … so it was a win-win situation.

All I had to do was clean the tire off at the car wash, make sure it didn’t have any glass, stones, wire, etc. sticking out of it so that it was safe to handle barehanded.  At just under 200 pounds, the tire is the perfect weight for a lower body conditioning workout.

Tractor Tire Reverse Ladder MetCon

  • 1A) 10 Sledgehammer Tire Smashes
  • 1B) 10 Tire Flips

Repeat, subtracting 1 repetition from each exercise each round.  Continue until you reach 1 repetition of each exercise.
